In encouraging Israel, Moses shared a way to give God's word more than passing attention. Moses said, in Deut. 11:18, "Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes." God's word, the Bible, deserves a high place in our lives.
The heart, being the seat of emotions, is a great place to treasure God's word. The Bible says in Ps. 119:11, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Knowing God's word helps us direct ourselves away from temptation and sin. This kind of knowledge comes from study.
The soul often describes the life of a person (Gen. 2:7). The Bible also says in Ps. 19:7, "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul..." Through study, we learn how to live our life in a pleasing way to God. We also learn the benefits of living such a life.
Let us study so we may please God from our hears in our lives.
