As we continue our thoughts on Elders, Peter tells us they are to "shepherd the flock of God" (1 Pet. 5:2, Acts. 20:28). Elders show people, God's people, the way to spiritual food and eventually to Heaven. Along the way, they may need to defend the sheep from those who seek to harm them.
Perter calls Elders "Overseers" (1 Pet. 5:2). They see the work of Christ, in all its aspects, is done. They may not do all the work, but they see individuals do carry on Christ's wonderful work.
Finally, Peter says Elders are "examples" (1 Pet. 5:3). Elders are not perfect men, but they always try to be like Christ in what they do. They do not just tell people what to do, they do what is to be done, so the members know what to do. The members must see Christ in their leaders or they will never follow them.
