How pure and holy is our God? The prophet answers in Hab. 1:13, "You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness." Because evil is completely opposed to God, He will not look upon it. This helps us understand Genesis 19. God was so holy He could not personally visit Sodom; so, to get the facts, God sent two angels instead. Perhaps Ps. 34:16 helps, "The face of the Lord is against those who do evil". This does not mean God is ignorant of our sins. We read in Ps. 69:5, "O God, you know my foolishness, and my sins are not hidden from You." God knows when we sin, but He does not watch.
So how are Christians to live? The apostle gives us the answer in 1 Pet. 1:15, "But as He who called you is holy, you be holy in all your conduct." We are told in Ps. 11:7, "For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright." If you want God to watch you, live righteously.
